Professor Dirk Dressler is a board certified and fullx licensed neurologist and psychiatrist. He was appointed the first professor for movement disorders in Germany at Hannover Medical School. He deals with all movement disorders and their therapies, including botulinum toxin therapy, conventional and specialised pharmacotherapies including duodopa pumps, apomorphine pumps, baclofen pumps and deep brain stimulation. His fee is €120 per hour. His fees are flat rates based on the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ 8/34/801/860, 2.3-fold). Detailed invoices are issued on request. Dirk Dressler, MD, PhD, received his medical training at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen and at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. During this time, he was a fellow of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. He is a fully licenced neurologist and psychiatrist. After several years of postgraduate training at the National Hospital for Neurology and the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London, UK, he took up a position as senior consultant at Rostock University, Rostock, Germany. Following his habilitation, he was appointed Full Professor of Neurology and Head of Movement Disorders Section, Department of Neurology at Hannover Medical School in September 2008. Since 2021, he has been Co-Director of the Neurotoxin Research Centre at the Medical Faculty of Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
He is one of the pioneers of botulinum toxin therapy in Europe. He has published over 700 articles, book chapters and abstracts as well as several books on dystonia, other movement disorders and botulinum toxin therapy. He is the author with the largest number of publications on botulinum toxin therapy worldwide. For his contributions to the development of botulinum toxin therapy, he received an honorary professorship from the University of Santiago de Chile, an honorary doctorate from the Medical University of Sofia, Bulgaria, the Symtox Lifetime Award, the Lifetime Award of the Chinese Neurotoxin Society, the Lifetime Award of the Institute of Advanced Sciences and the Botulinum Research Center Dartmouth, MA, the Catedra Laboris Teaching Award of the University of Monterrey, Mexico, the Research Award of the Inge Diersbach Foundation and several other prestigious awards. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the University of Monterrey, Mexico, Sechenov University, Moscow, Russia, and Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He also holds several patents on botulinum toxin therapy.
Professor Dressler is co-founder and co-organiser of the International Congress on the Treatment of Dystonia, co-founder of IAB – Interdisciplinary Working Group on Movement Disorders, the International Neurotoxin Association, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society Special Interest Group on Spasticity, the Health Network of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and editor and reviewer of numerous international neurological journals. He has served on the board of We Move, New York, and on the advisory boards of the German Dystonia Society, Dystonia und Du, Bundesverband Torticollis, Fundacion Dystonia, Santiago, Chile, Associacao Brasileira de Portadores de Distonias, Sao Paulo, Brazil, the National Spasmodic Torticollis Association, Los Angeles, CA, the Swiss Dystonia Society, Basel, Switzerland, and the German Seniors’ League, Bonn. He is a member of various international medical societies and works as a project reviewer for the Wellcome Trust, London, UK, the National Medical Research Council, Singapore and the Czech Ministry of Health. He is the founder of the Wittgenstein Organisation. He is co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of WisperBio, Wilmington, DE. He is also a consultant for various international pharmaceutical companies, including Merz Pharmaceuticals, Allergan, Ipsen, Solstice/Eisai, Syntaxin, Medytox, Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products and Wizmedi.
During his career from 1985 to 2020, he attended 786 meetings and gave 625 lectures in 241 cities on all continents. On 31/05/22 he had an RG score of 48.58, an RG h-index of 59 and 12367 citations.
He is a member of the Reform Club, London, and the Anglo-German Club, Hamburg. His hobbies include collecting art and classic cars as well as off-road motorbiking.
